Police in Albany were called at around 5 a.m. Saturday, May 6, with reports that a car appeared to be driving into the water at a boat launch on Quay Street, according to Albany Police.
When officers arrived, they found a sedan stuck on a curb, feet away from the water.
An investigation found that the driver, Santisha Lopez, of Albany, had been involved in a domestic incident before intentionally driving toward the river with her 2-year-old son on her lap, police said.
“Thankfully, the car became stuck on the curb and did not enter the water,” Albany Police said in a statement.
Neither Lopez nor the child were injured in the ordeal. The boy was later turned over to a relative.
Lopez was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and endangering the welfare of a child.
Following her arraignment, a judge ordered her held at the Albany County jail.
